About me
I am originally from Chicago, Illinois and moved to the Santa Clarita Valley in 1995. I have been professionally pet sitting as an Independent Contractor since 2013 and launched my own business, Jackie O's Professional Pet Care, in January of 2016. In the past I volunteered with various animal rescues for over 10 years and also worked on a mobile Spay/Neuter Clinic for 2 years. I currently reside with one rescued cat, Clover, and two rescued dogs, Honey Bee and Boomerang. This is my full time job and I welcome the opportunity to meet with you and your pets. I am bonded, insured, background checked and certified in Pet First Aid and CPR. I'm also a member of Pet Sitters International and will provide references by request.
What is a professional pet sitter,
and why hire one?
What are the advantages of pet sitting (over other pet-care options)?
- Pets are happier and experience less stress at home in their familiar environment
- Diet and exercise routines are uninterrupted
- Travel trauma for both owner and pet is eliminated
- Pet’s exposure to illness is minimized
What does a pet sitter do?
"Pet sitting" is defined as "the act of caring for a pet in its own home while the owner is away." Dog walking is also a form of pet sitting since it involves coming to the pet’s home to provide exercise and companionship. Caring for pets in the client’s home is what separates pet sitters from boarders or doggie daycare.
Pet owners often use pet sitters when they go on vacation, travel for business, work long hours or when they are too sick or injured to care for their pets. During the pet-sitting visits, pet sitters perform a variety of tasks, including:
- Feeding and changing their water bowls
- Providing exercise and play time, which may include walking the dog
- Cleaning litter boxes and cleaning up any other pet messes
- Administering pet medications, if needed
- Providing lots of TLC!
Pet sitters also bring in mail, packages and newspapers and alternate blinds and lights to give the home a "lived-in look" if the owners are away. Pet sitters may also perform other tasks as requested by the pet owners.
What separates a hobbyist pet sitter from a professional pet sitter?
Often times, pet owners, and even news outlets, use the term "pet sitter" carelessly, referring to anyone – from a family friend to the neighborhood teenager asked to walk a dog – as a "pet sitter". Pet sitting is a professional career and professional pet sitters and dog walkers offer peace of mind that other pet-care options cannot.
A professional pet-sitting or dog-walking service should be able to answer "YES" to the following questions:
- Is the pet sitter insured and bonded?
- Can the pet sitter provide proof of clear criminal history?
- Does the pet sitter provide client references if requested?
- Will the pet sitter use a pet-sitting services agreement or contract?
- Is the pet sitter certified in pet first aid and CPR?
- Is the pet sitter a member of a professional and educational association, such as Pet Sitters International?

Daily Dog Walks
The benefits of a dog walk are numerous:
- Reduces hyperactivity and unruly and destructive behavior
- Keeps your pet healthy by helping the digestive system and maintaining a proper weight
- Helps build confidence in a timid or fearful dog
If the temperature is over 90 degrees, the time outside will be reduced to 10-15 minutes, but I will spend no less than 30 minutes with your dog at each visit. This is to ensure the safety of your dog and myself.
I will provide fresh water and administer medication, if necessary.
The maximum dogs I will walk at one time are either 2 large dogs or 3 small dogs.
